Last weekend our troop attended the Girl Scout Songfest to celebrate the Girl Scouts' 100th Anniversary. Thirty thousand girls across Washington got together at the same time to sings songs to commemorate the event.
Our troop sang with 500 other girls at the Capitol in the Rotunda. It was lots of fun and neat to be a part of the anniversary celebrations. They had all the girls and adults stand up at one point and remain standing as they called out the number of years you had been a girl scout. The little girls were quite amazed as they heard the numbers climb, 5,10,15,20......70 when Hannah asked me "Did they just say seventy?" Yes,there was a woman who was 90 that had been a Girl Scout for the last 70 years! It is amazing to think that she was only 10 when Juliette Low first founded the Girl Scouts in Savannah Georgia.
Hannah loves girl scouts and had a blast selling cookies for the first time this year. Thank you to all of you who supported her and the Girl Scouts. This is a great organization.
This year the Girl Scouts designated 2012 as the year of the girl and launched a new program aimed at erasing the glass ceiling for women within a generation. I am really excited that my daughters are a part of an organization that is working hard to teach them that women can be and do anything they want to be and more importantly is working to teach young girls that they are strong and beautiful.
