This is one excited little girl who finally wore her Daddy down with her incessant "pleeeeease Dad" and is waiting to get her ears pierced. As you can see she is thrilled. But first, a little history. Dad originally said no pierced ears until at least half the girls in her class had them. I'm not sure whether that was a good or bad thing. It did make her wait longer (she has been asking since she was five) but it also reinforces that if all the other kids jump off the bridge that you should wait and jump with them! Needless to say Dad finally said yes and off we went to Claires.
I told Hannah that it would hurt REALLY bad for a few minutes and then the sting would start to wear off. She assured me that she was fine with that. A little pain for pierced ears, no problem! We arrived during one of the employees' dinner hour so she had a choice of getting one ear pierced and then the other or waiting until she returned and having them both done at the same time. At first she was just going to do one at a time, but then she said maybe it would be a good idea if we waited until the other lady got back. Wise choice sweet girl.
When the other lady returned, she picked a beautiful pair of faux diamond earrings and then the ladies started to mark her ears for the piercing. It was amazing how fast jubilation became apprehension. As you can see from the picture below she was getting just a little scared. Then they got the piercing guns out and on the count of three she was all done. No crying, no "ouch," no nothing! I guess I had talked up the pain so well that it didn't hurt anywhere near as bad as she thought it would. In fact she was so brave that another mom who was there to pierce her three-year old's ears used Hannah as a shinning example of how easy it was. Sorry little girl.
When we went to the pool later that week, Hannah saw a lifeguard with 4 earrings in each ear and asked how old the girl was when she got her ears pierced liked that. I looked at the life guard and said "oh, she must have been at least sixteeen." The lifeguard then looked at Hannah and said "oh yes, I was sixteen' winking at me. Thanks lifeguard for helping me to slow her down a bit in her rush to grow up. I think the teen years are going to be interesting in this house. :)
